KOBELCO's New 'Double Security' COMPACT SEAL During normal operation, the #3S sealing ring is kept in a no-load condition as the pressure between the #3/3S seal chamber and the stern tube is equalized using oil supplied from the stern tube gravity tank. If a leak occurs in the #3 sealing ring, the #3S sealing ring can immediately be engaged by closing valves on the oil lines leading to and from the #3/3S chamber.
