Hagglunds/ASEA Gets
$5.5-Million Order
From Baker Marine
The Hagglunds Products Divi-
sion of ASEA Inc. has received an
order worth approximately $5.5
million from Baker Marine Cor-
poration of Ingleside, Texas, to
supply low-speed, high-torque hy-
draulic motors for the elevating
systems of offshore jackup drill-
ing rigs.
It is the largest single order in
the history of the division and
probably the largest single order
ever for hydraulic motors. The
division is a unit of ASEA Inc.,
wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of
ASEA AB, Swedish-based world-
wide manufacturer of electrical
and mechanical equipment.
The contract specifies the larg-
est Hagglunds motor, 10 gallons
displacement, with a double-act-
ing band brake bracket for deliv-
ery during a one-year period. Pre-
viously, Baker Marine had pur-
chased about 300 of the large
Hagglunds 80-series radial piston
motors during the past seven
years.
The Hagglunds type 8385 mo-
tors are the heart of the Baker
Marine elevating system, which
has a capacity 2 to 2y2 times
larger than earlier rack-and-pin-
ion jackup systems.
