April 2013 www.sname.org/sname/mt Donald L. Blount, P.E., is founder and president of Donald L. Blount and Associates, Inc., providing engineering and con- sulting services for high-speed special-purpose commercial, military, and recreational craft. Previously he was employed by the United States Navys Combatant Craft Engineering Department, and the David Taylor Model Basin. He is a fellow of both SNAME and RINA, and graduated with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from George Washington University in 1963. He has co- authored more than fty papers and articles for technical societies in various countries. JB Braun is the project leader for 3Di for North Sails, respon- sible for the engineering and analysis of the structures and for integrating 3Di technology into the North Sails product line. For ORACLE TEAM USA, he works on inte- grating aerodynamic research into design and performance. In 2000, he outlined the process for a computer-based wind tunnel by coupling computer codes with nite element analysis. Brauns second paper came in 2006 as a member of the ORACLE Racing design team, and it described the rst ever wireless pressure measurement for sails. He also is an experienced din- ghy sailor who has campaigned twice for Olympic selection. Tyler Doyle is president of Doyle CFD, a consulting company specializing in computational uid dynamics (CFD) and nite element analysis-based analyses and design. He earned bachelor and master of science degrees in mechan- ical engineering from Stanford University, and conducted graduate-level research in CFD-based shape optimization of sails. He has designed sail systems for a variety of vessels ranging from Olympic dinghies to mega yachts, including Maltese Falcon and Mirabella V. Doyle is a recognized leader in the design and analyses of struc- tural membrane systems such as airships, soft buildings, air-beams, and sails. Eric Greene founded Eric Greene Associates, Inc. to advance understanding of composite materials for marine struc- tures. Engineering advanced materials for marine structures, under- standing the performance of composites in res, composites education and ocean renewable energy are the primary areas of corporate expertise.
