January 2013 www.sname.org/sname/mt engineering. We also are involved in a joint European master of science program for oshore wind turbines together with the Technical University of Denmark, TU Delft, and the University of Oldenburg. Currently, 125 students are admitted into our ve-year program, with 40 admitted into our 2-year program, of which 25 are international students. e number of graduates has increased signicantly the last few years and for 2013 we are graduating approx- imately 130 students with an expected rise to 150 or more in 2017. The total dropout rate from our pro- grams is down to 15%, which is considered good. Internationalization is considered important by both our industry and our students, and currently 83% of our students spend one or two semesters abroad. In 2011, our program was put up for a review process with invited people from the marine and offshore industry, including an international evalua- tion committee. The recommendations given during the review process have now been implemented into an updated program. MTProfessor Harald Ellingsen is head of the Department of Marine Tech- nology (DMT); Professor Torgeir Moan is director of the Centre for Ships and Ocean Structures; and Associate Professor Eilif Pedersen is deputy head of DMT and chairman of master of science programs in marine technology, all at the Norwegian University of Science and Technol- ogy in Trondheim, Norway. Marine technology students prepare a model ship for a test at the Marine Technology Centre in Trondheim. (focus on education) Integrated Master Program continued
