www.sname.org/sname/mt April 2012 D214150 TERM AGREEMENT FOR MARINE ENGINEERING AND NAVAL ARCHITECTURE SERVICES FOR THE NEW YORK STATE CANAL SYSTEM STATEWIDE The New York State Thruway Authority/Canal Corporation (?Authority?) is seeking to retain a qualified Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture firm to provide the following services: design of vessel repairs and retrofits, marine surveys and evaluation of its existing fleet (including economic cost-benefit life-span analyses), evaluation of prospective vessel acquisitions, and design of new custom vessels to meet the specific needs of the Canal Corporation. The Canal Corporation fleet consists of a variety of tug boats, tender boats, hydraulic dredges, derrick boats, dump scows, deck barges, and other miscellaneous work boats and platforms, with some equipment being over 80 years old. The prospective consultant will need expertise in mid-20 th century to present diesel (MGO, #2) and diesel-electric inboard propulsion systems, typical marine secondary mechanical systems, on-water fuel transfer systems, diesel generators, AC & DC high voltage electrical systems, energy efficiency enhancements, cathodic protection (fresh water), metallurgy (older steel alloys), marine coatings (historic preservation & prevention of parasitic invasive species transit), preservation of historic vessels, design of bulk cargo barges and custom self-propelled workboats, and United States Coast Guard (USCG) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) regulations and standards. The value of this term agreement is $1,500,000. Work is expected to begin in October 2012. The contract term is 2 years, with the Authority?s option to extend for 1 additional year. This term agreement has a New York State Certified Minority business subcontracting or Woman-owned subcontracting goal of 20%.
