January 2012 www.sname.org/sname/mt (travel) After a stop at Ingalls in the morning, the last stop on our tour was Austal USA in Mobile. After just two seafood dives in two days, we were ready for a change. We stopped at Lisa?s favor- ite lunch destination, Spot of Tea. The restau- rant is located across from Cathedral Square in down- town Mobile in a charming historic building. e build- ing was built in 1836, and in the late 1800?s was a stable for carriages, which is why one of their dining rooms is called ?the carriageway.? Lisa and I started with our usual, the Cajun tomato bisque, which is made with nine spices and a pinch of cayenne pepper, which give it a bit of bite. I?ve never had it, but their loaded potato soup has been voted Mobile?s most popular soup for the past five years, and their chicken salad is prob- ably one of the best I?ve ever tasted. ey are really known for their brunch items, which are not reserved for weekends, but are available every day. eir signature breakfast item is eggs cathedral, which is a crab cake, eggs, and seafood sauce served on an English mu n. ey are also known for their strawberry tea, which is another favorite of Lisa?s. I would be remiss if I didn?t at least mention the sea- food dive choices in Alabama from the list of Coastal Living winners. e top choice was Lulu?s at Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores, which is operated by Lucy Bu et, singer Jimmy?s sister. And the tasty contenders are Doc?s Seafood Shack and Oyster Bar in Orange Beach, and Barley?s Seafood Restaurant in eodore. As one of my good friends is a big Jimmy Bu et fan, Lulu?s is on my list the next time I?m in Alabama.
