Several systems that are tied into a ships GPS are currently under development with a promising outlook. e next government ship program should consider local, federal, and international emission compliance regimes of its diesel engines as well as the ability to verify the compliance of these systems with onboard real-time monitoring devices. In order to produce stewards of Americas oceans and enforcers of its maritime diplomacy, higher levels of EP must be achieved in the next government ship program. Sustainability for any government ship is no longer an optional consideration, but an imperative. Commercial technologies and practices represent a great place for government programs to start adding proven, low-risk solutions to their ships.
